Sunset Session
GOLDEN HOUR
Wondering if golden hour is for you?
Sunset and Sunrise share the same "Golden Hour lighting" so initially you have the option to choose what time of the day works best for you. Golden hour is by far my favorite lighting because from an artistic perspective, I have more freedom to play around with the constant change of lighting.
I always suggest Sunset Sessions for laid back client's. If you are naturally not a morning person but you would like that same dreamy lighting, sunsets are best for you. Below are some tips that I have for my Sunset Session seeking client's. Although some tips are obvious, others are may come in handy so take your time reading them all.
Plan Ahead
Sunset Sessions make for a beautiful backdrop but there's nothing worse than not making it to your session on time and missing the sun.
Tips for being on time:
- Eat an early dinner
- Eat before getting dressed (especially with children)
- If bringing pets, walk them prior to getting dressed
- Give yourself time (things happen)
- Leave the house early
- Use your GPS to find you the fastest route
- Give yourself time for traffic and parking
- Be ready mentally and physically to start your session
Planning to bring Children?
I absolutely admire children at sessions, they help to break the awkwardness that parents sometimes feel. But let's be honest, as a Mom myself; I know all too well what we go through in preparation for a Session.
Tips for children:
Dress yourself first! I know, I know! You're probably thinking "absolutely not!". But this strategy works! They will be less likely to ruin their outfit or wrinkle their clothes if they get dressed right before you leave. Allow them to nap mid-day so that they aren't tired and cranky during the session. Bring a mess-free snack, bribery always keep them motivated haha. Last but not least; choose a place that is kid-friendly, you won't regret it!
Being Prepared!
Curious on what to bring to assure you have a successful session? Well, this kind of goes along with planning ahead. Think about the location, time, weather, and who the session is for.
Tips for being prepared:
- Think about your location and bring extra gear to prevent your outfit getting messed up
- Bring a light jacket or sweater during the evening to put on in between shots, if needed.
- Dress according to your location and time of day, being uncomfortable will be noticeable in your photos.
- If you're bringing a pet, make sure you pack them water.
- Allow children to photograph first, they lose interest fast.
